The fair case
What a business line of credit genuinely does better
A bank line is the cheapest money on this list and for an established, bankable business it is the right answer. You draw only what you need, pay interest only on that, and it revolves — so it handles repeated seasonal gaps rather than one. It also builds a banking relationship and a credit history that helps with everything you borrow afterwards. If you can get one on reasonable terms, get one.
The limit
Where the gap is
The barriers are time and qualification. Lines are underwritten on the business — trading history, financial statements, credit, often a personal guarantee — and the process takes weeks, which does not help when the deadline is Friday. Newer businesses, businesses in a poor year, and businesses in sectors banks dislike are frequently declined regardless of what they own. Lines can also be reviewed and reduced, sometimes exactly when conditions make you need them most.
Our view
The honest verdict
If you qualify for a bank line and have the weeks to arrange it, take the line — it is cheaper and revolving, and we would tell you so. This exists for the cases where the answer is no, or the timeline does not work.

This vs. a Merchant Cash Advance
An MCA is fast and needs no collateral. It is also the most expensive money most business owners ever take, largely because the cost is quoted as a factor rather than a rate.
